Secunderabad is twinned with the city of Hyderabad, the latter being the fifth largest metropolis in India and the state capital of Andhra Pradesh. The two cities are popularly called 'Twin cities'. In common parlance however, Secunderabad is seldom used these days. Instead 'Hyderabad' is used normally. Though they are called twins, the cities present different fusion of cultures, with Secunderabad having developed under direct British rule until 1948, and the city of Hyderabad, as the capital of a princely state. 

Secunderabad was founded in the 18th century as a British cantonment, and has a large Army and Air Force presence to this date. Today, the Secunderabad Cantonment is the largest among the 62 cantonments in India. This city is named after Sikandar Jah, the third Nizam of the Asaf Jahi dynasty, till recently Secunderabad had its own municipality and city government. Secunderabad was the area in Hyderabad which was under the control of British. Now it is a part of the Hyderabad district. Secunderabad celebrated two hundred years of its formation in 2007.

This city stayed a relatively another city of India until the late 1990s, when An ambitious visionary Chandrababu Naidu took over as CM., he caught on to the wave that was changing the world, and attracted the world's best software companies to set up bases in the twin cities - Microsoft, Google, Oracle, Infosys, Satyam, TCS, Wipro, Vanenburg, D E Shaw and just about every big name was in Hyderabad, sky-rocketing it to the Silicon Valley of India. This helped the city to set up world-class institutions in ISB and IIIT that put them firmly on the global map.

A city best known for Iranian tea, Charminar and its fascinating Urdu accent. Today Lakhs of youngsters from the city have seen their lives transform with the revolution, and their earnings and dignity manifold are now sporting swanky offices. As compared to those of their counterparts of a decade earlier who would get to sit in musty purchase offices of family-owned mid-tier businesses.
